PRACTICAL MEASURES TO PROTECT SELF AND LOVED ONES AGAINST BOKO HARAM

Some practical measures one must take to protect one's self and loved ones against Boko Haram:

1. If you live in attack-prone cities and towns especially in northern Nigeria, as much as possible, avoid being in crowded public places such as markets, shopping malls, motor parks, and recreational centres. You cannot avoid going to the Church or the Mosque but remain vigilant when you do go.
2. Know your personal staff such as security guards, house-maids, messengers, cleaners, cooks, drivers, gardeners etc.

Are they Nigerians? What is their Local Government Council of origin? Who recommended them? Who is their guarantor? Who are their close relatives in your city or town? Do you have copies of their identification documents such as Driver's Licence, National Identity Card or International Passport? Where were they working before you employed them? Why did they leave their former employer?

If they are non-Nigerian, what is their nationality? Are they legal aliens in Nigeria? Do you have a copy of their Residency Permit? DO NOT EMPLOY ILLEGAL MIGRANTS!

3. Who are your neighbours? Where do they work? If they are self-employed, what business are they involved in? What is their phone number?

4. Join and participate in the Residents' Association of your neighbourhood. Get the phone numbers of the Association's officers.

5. Get to know the Divisional Police Officer for your neighbourhood. Get his/her phone numbers and developed a friendly relationship with him/her.

6. When you go out, watch out for tell-tale signs that something might be amiss: unusually heavy traffic, a restive crowd, someone trailing you, strange people lurking around your home or office, phone calls from strangers who may be stalkers etc.

7. Make GOD your REFUGE AND STRENGTH. And be not afraid. Trust Him. A horse may be prepared for battle but safety is of the LORD. If you know Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, remember that He has promised that He would never leave nor forsake you. He will give His angels charge over you and keep you in all your ways. Praise God! Selah!

God bless Nigeria.
